Black Warrior of Firehole Lake Group

[The description of Young Hopeful was provided by Steve Gryc.]

Young Hopeful Geyser is the first eruptive feature encountered as you walk counter-clockwise around the Firehole Lake boardwalk. Young Hopeful is a collection of many small vents which erupt perpetually in some seasons and more periodically in others. Recently the vents nearest Firehole Lake have dried up while the vents nearer the boardwalk have become more active. (Black deposits of manganese oxide give the inactive dry vents a burned-over look.) The two largest vents, which are adjacent to each other, combine to form the largest and tallest column of water which is often around 2 feet but which sometimes surges to 6. The activity waxes and wanes and stops briefly.
